The island of Jamaica is situated south of Cuba in the Caribbean. It is famous for its beautiful beaches, reggae music and distinctive cuisine. Montego Bay is the hub for tourism in Jamaica, there is an international airport situated here, along with a port which cruise ships frequently visit. Among its many attractions, Montego Bay is famous for its beaches. These include the glistening white sands of Doctor’s Cave beach, Rose Hall Beach and Cornwall beach. Doctor’s Cave is a small but beautiful beach, probably the most famous in Montego Bay, but at times it can become very crowded with tourists. Usually, it is a perfect place to relax and there is the opportunity to go snorkelling, diving or jet-skiing. There is a bar and restaurant on the beach which helps make it the perfect spot to spend a relaxing day on your Jamaica holiday.
One of the most popular activities in Montego Bay is a rafting trip down the Martha Brae River. These trips are very popular and can become quite busy during peak tourist season. However, if you pick the right time of day they are a leisurely way to pass the time with a raft captain who acts as a tour guide and points out natural sights along the river.
Golfing fans will not want to miss a few rounds on the Cinnamon Hill Golf course in the Rose Hall Resort and Country Club. The course is 17,000 feet above sea level and surrounded by unspoilt views of the Caribbean Sea. Expert caddies are on hand to help out, but a game of golf here is worth it for the views alone.
While in Rose Hall, the Rose Hall Great House is well worth a visit. This was a former sugar plantation, with the residence built by the Palmer family in 1770. The house gives an insight into Jamaica’s colonial history, but the guided tour emphasises the eerie history of the family who owned it and the buildings reputation as a haunted house.
But, as is typical of Jamaica, the most memorable part of any Jamaica holiday here will be encounters with the people you meet and the unique lifestyle.
