A honeymoon in Paris? Why not! Paris – it’s where words metamorphose into silver filaments, and ultimately poetry. Usually we love offbeat sites and natural scenery, but Paris is one city that has us smitten. There is something so intensely magical about the city, even on the dreariest of days. We’ve visited Paris dozens of times and written several articles on it for budget, mid-range, and luxury travellers alike. But this one is specially for those who are planning a decadent romantic getaway or honeymoon in Paris. Hope this gives you the inspiration to plan the honeymoon of your dreams in Paris 🙂
Getting into Paris
You can catch a train from Paris’ airport which will get you to Paris Gare Du Nord, the most central rail Station in the city. From here you have to switch trains to get to your hotel. Irrespective of whether you’re on your honeymoon or not, we’d suggest renting a cab to get into Paris. Most Metro stations in Paris do not have escalators or elevators and this makes lugging suitcases hard. Moreover, it will cost you EUR 25-30 (for a couple) to get from Charles De Gaulle airport to the centre of Paris by train while a pre-booked taxi can be arranged for EUR 50, which makes sense given how hassle-free the transfer ends up being.
Try not to book a cab on the spot. Go with a trusted company that offers competitive prices and has good reviews online. Pre-booking a cab is the best option as it is both cheaper and safer. We usually book airport transfers in most cities with Kiwi Taxi – they specialise in car transfers in thousands of cities across the world. Rates are competitive and we’ve never had any trouble with them. It’s a pretty seamless process, so would definitely recommend looking them up.
Where to stay on your honeymoon in Paris
Over the years, we’ve written about several of our favourite accommodation options in Paris – from hotels and mid-range apartments to luxury apartments. But if you’re on your honeymoon in Paris, we’d suggest booking a hotel where you feel indulged and pampered to bits. When it comes to luxury hotels in Paris, there truly isn’t anything else like Shangri-La Paris. The supremely elegant hotel is the former home of Napoleon Bonaparte’s grand nephew and is bound to transport you to another world altogether. It is reminiscent of the Palace of Versailles and no two rooms are the same. Ornate interiors and gilded staircases transport guests to the spacious and well-equipped rooms.
The hotel is located in a plush neighbourhood and offers an incredible view of the Eiffel Tower. If you literally want to wake up to the iconic Eiffel Tower, then opt for Room 410 or Room 606. Both suites offer expansive balconies overlooking the Eiffel Tower and with it, the city of Paris. It truly doesn’t get more romantic than that.
But that’s not all. The hotel also boasts of some of the best restaurants in Paris – the exquisite L’Abeille serves some of the best French food in Paris (more about it in the ‘Dining’ section below) and their Michelin starred Shang Palace satiates that craving for Asian food completely. Try their signature red-rice dumplings or fish in black bean sauce and wrap up your meal with a refreshing Sago-Mango soup.
Things to do on your honeymoon in Paris
Of course there is no lack of things to do in Paris. There are dozens of activities and sites, no matter what your preferences. Check out this article where we spoke about our favourite Offbeat Things To Do in Paris
But since this is your honeymoon, here are a few of our favourite romantic things to do in Paris:
-
Go for a walk by the Seine
This is a no brainer but definitely one of our favourite ways to experience the city of Paris. Pack a little picnic or pick a bottle of wine for good measure
-
Click a photograph at Maison la rose
There’s a reason this cute bistro, in the heart of Montmartre, isn’t in the dining section. Food here is overpriced and mediocre but the pink facade is bound to melt one’s heart. Do drop by Maison la rose for a a few picture-perfect shots of your honeymoon in Paris.
-
Watch the sun set over the Eiffel Tower from a secret spot
There are so many vantage points for sunset over the Eiffel. However come sunset, most of them tend to get crowded. Not this little nook near the village of Passy. If you want to enjoy a private moment with your partner during your honeymoon in Paris, hop over to the Haussman buildings and linger as you watch the sun set over the Eiffel Tower.
-
Unwind at Parc de Sceaux
If you have a bit of extra time on your hands, then we suggest heading to the outskirts of Paris to Parc de Sceaux. The park houses a chateau and lots of open spaces. Parc de Sceaux is pretty all year round but it is especially gorgeous during autumn months. It’s where all the locals go to unwind. You’ll love it!
Where to eat on your honeymoon in Paris
There is no dearth of eateries in Paris but we would recommend visiting at least one boulangerie and pattisserie, one creperie, and one French fine-dining restaurant. Here are a few we suggest
-
Du Pain et des Idees
One of our favourite bakeries in Paris, Du Pain et des Idees is affordable and a huge hit with the locals. Pick up pastries from here and just walk to Seine for an impromptu picnic by the banks of the river.
-
Rue de Montparnasse i.e. Crêpe Heaven
Rue de Montparnasse is an alleyway lined with crêperies by the dozen. La Creperie Bretonne is our favourite. Both the savoury and sweet galettes are incredible. Do not leave without trying their crêpe au caramel au beurre salé (salted butter caramel crepe).
-
L’abeille
When it comes to fine-dining restaurants in Paris, there are few that rival the much acclaimed L’abeille at Shangri-La Paris. A meal here isn’t just a meal – it’s an experience! Expect elegant understated interiors and traditional French food, made with the finest ingredients. Vid opted for the dégustation menu, which is perfect if you’re celebrating your honeymoon or a special occasion. I wasn’t as hungry, so I stuck to the à la carte menu. Our meal comprised of indulgent canapés, followed by scallops (cooked to perfection!), and sumptuous foie gras. We wrapped it up with a scoop of beer ice cream and perfectly-textured poached pears. The meal was incredible, right from the canapés to the selection of cheeses and post-dessert petit fours. But the last touch is perhaps the best one – a networks of moreish praline chocolates shaped like a honeycomb, some of the best I’ve ever tasted. We actually took a bag of their chocolates back to our room. Book a table at L’abeille for a gastronomic journey like no other.
-
Ladurée
A honeymoon in Paris just wouldn’t be complete without a pitstop at the iconic macaron specialists. Stop by their tea room or just pick up a box of their signature pastel coloured macarons. Indulgent and completely worth it!
-
Au Vieux Paris d’Arcole
Since you are in Paris for your honeymoon, you will want to visit a quaint French Bistro. Unfortunately we are yet to find one in Paris that is fantastic. But if you want a photogenic one, then Au Vieux Paris d’Arcole is the place for you. Food and service here is definitely not the best – in fact, it’s strictly average. But the facade of the bistro is stunning. Our advice? Drop by for a coffee and some photographs 🙂
That’s it! Some of our suggestions that will help you plan an ideal honeymoon in Paris. Hope you have an incredible time in the city and love it as much as we do. Bon Voyage!
Paris is in itself an amazing city and to have a honeymoon there seems like the ultimate dream. The photos are wonderful.
Thanks Danasia – glad you enjoyed reading the article 🙂
I went to Paris for an overnight trip once a number of years ago and I have to say I would LOVE to go back. It is such a beautiful place and so perfect for a romantic getaway, especially if you have a view overlooking the eiffel tower.
Thanks a ton Sarah – hope you make it there super soon. It truly is perfect for a romantic getaway, however cliched that sounds 🙂
What a lovely little guide. Paris there rae so many amazing sights and things to do, I used to visit on a monthly basis, but not been for a while now x
Thanks Melanie – we used to visit Paris so frequently too but haven’t been there as much over the past couple of years. Plan to rectify that in 2018 🙂
I have never been to Paris before but I have always wanted to go. The hotel looks absolutely amazing and the fact it has some of the best restaurants in Paris is a plus. I would definitely love to be working from the desk with the view of the Eiffel Tower every single day.
Hey Charli – Paris is well and truly special. You must make a trip there soon 🙂
Having a room which you could look out to the Eiffel Tower looks absolutely stunning and definitely the kind of place for a special occasion like a honeymoon x
It was a very special stay indeed – we were celebrating our anniversary 🙂 Literally had to tear ourselves away from the balcony when the time came to leave
I really want to visit Paris and hope 2018 will be the year I do

Hey Kara – make this the year. There’s something so special about Paris 🙂
I agree that it is definitely a no brainer that Paris is the ultimate place to go if you are after a romantic getaway for your honeymoon.I would definitely be open to a hotel as luxurious as Shangri-La Paris, it reminds me of renaissance decor so gorgeous!
Hey Ana – it truly is a stunning hotel. Definitely worth the splurge on a honeymoon 🙂
Nice varied list of things to do to make your honeymoon just that bit extra special in one of the most romantic cities on earth 🙂
Glad you enjoyed reading this one – Paris is truly one of the most magical cities in the world 🙂
We only got to spend 1 day in Paris. It definitely wasn’t enough. The places you have mentioned look amazing.
You must go back for longer Leah – Paris deserves at least 5 days 🙂
I went to France for my Honeymoon, I absolutely love the French way of living 🙂 I’m actually going to Paris in March as well and im so excited x
I love the French way to living too. So happy to know you’re going to Paris in March – how exciting 🙂
Hi Savi and Vid,
Bonjour;)
I came to know about your adventures through HT-Brunch today. It’s really awesome and the way to enjoy life. This article about Paris recalled my nostalgic visit exactly 1year back to city of fashion, love and romance. I had been there for 3days which are most memorable in my life. 3 day metro pass costs 25euros is the best option to explore Paris. If you wanna explore Paris, just come out of any station and just get lost,is the advice given to me by friend really worked for me. The GENERATOR PARIS is the best option to stay economically what I found,it costs me approximately 70euros for 2nights stay. It’s hostel kind of shared accommodation for solo travelers. Siene walk, tomb de arc, louvers, are the best. One must visit country side of France which is more beautiful. I love visiting Nantes,a small city with great culture. Planning to visit again.
Bonne voyage to you. Keep posting. Abiento
Thanks a lot Milind 🙂 Glad to see you loved Paris as much as we do 🙂
Hi Savi-Vid!
I’m planning a 15-day holiday in feb. Would it be a good time to visit Paris? I’m not one for winters but slight cold is manageable. ?
I really do want to explore Europe but winters are keeping me away.
What’s the worse that could happen? Just carry good winter clothes and dress in layers and you’ll be absolutely fine ??
Thinking of visiting Paris for Christmas this year. However, I’m wondering if it s going to be chilly and wet? Also the Christmas markets seem alright but not comparable to Germany /Austria.
Read your article on offbeat Paris n it seems promising. Any suggestions on Paris as a winter destination ?
Hey Paris is great during winter but the weather is unpredictable. You might be dreaming of snow and be stuck with the rain. But that holds true for the rest of Europe too. So do factor that in before planning your holiday.
When is the best time to visist paris?? We are planning in coming mid june. You be great if u would reply.
Thank you.
Hi,
Paris is great in all seasons – it actually depends on your preferences 🙂
Which Haussmann building is it exactly where this photo was clicked? Can I get a specific address ?
Hi, my husband and I are visiting Paris in August this year for 8 nights. We are celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary, what would be the things not to miss during this trip? We like our wine a lottt so some nice bars which are not in the touristy areas? Thanks guys you both are amazing!
Congratulations Tina!!
Perhaps you could get some ideas from our other articles on Paris: https://www.bruisedpassports.com/everything/paris-must-dos
Hi, really loved reading about Paris in your article. We are planning to go to France for our honeymoon from the 1st to the 16th-18th of March 2020. Planning to cover Paris for a week, Bordeaux for a couple days and then fly from there to Marseille and do the French Riviera by car, and fly back from Nice. Also, I’m confused whether to fit in Reims in our itinerary or leave it.
Is it worth it doing these places in March (cause I hope it doesn’t rain that time in France, as on the internet the weather patterns’ really confusing) ? Also do suggest how long a time period is enough to cover France.
Love the stuff you both do, more happiness and power to you guys always!
Hey Ayush – on the internet the weather pattern is really confusing because the weather is really unpredictable in France that time of year 🙂 You might get rain, you might get sunshine, you might get bitter cold – but no matter what kinda weather you get, you’ll enjoy France. It’s a special country 🙂
What would be the ideal cost for a perfect honeymoon? And which time is the best to visit?
We would say you should budget at least INR 50,000 per day in Paris for a luxurious honeymoon. Visit during summer time for long days and so you can make the most of it 🙂
This is a great post. This post has helped us to know a lot. I will definitely go to such a great place.
Hi,
is December a good time to visit Paris?
Yes, absolutely 🙂
