Ladakh is like nowhere I’ve been before – rows upon rows of prayer flags, glinting lagoons, snow-capped peaks, red-cheeked kids, handsome yaks and horses in the wild, and scattered sunbeams that lend an air of magic to the proceedings. It’s a secret oasis of happiness 🙂

Life is busy (sometimes a bit too busy) but Ladakh’s landscapes force one to take a step back and relish entire nights under star-laden skies or spend days cavorting in barren plateaux.

In keeping with this I packed clothes that meld with Ladakh’s obscure panoramas – breezy jumpsuits, bohemian skirts meant for twirling, and lush silks with pops of burgundy and charcoal that ended up complementing the rugs and tapestries at our glamping site in Ladakh. I also packed a host of woollens for when there was a nip in the air – down jackets, pastel beanies, candy-coloured coats, and pinafore dresses (I’m having a bit of a moment with them) 🙂

This lookbook is meant to provide some inspiration to you before you set off on your road trip to Ladakh. If you want to refer to a list of practical things (thermals, woollen socks, torches etc) you should pack before setting off on a holiday where you might have to battle cold weather and extreme temperatures, then hop over to the two articles below:

In addition to the items listed in the article below, don’t forget to pack travel SPF and an ultra nourishing lip balm because Ladakh’s weather and searing sun can leave your skin feeling parched and lips burnt. I used a Kiehl’s sunscreen and Nuxe’s Reve de miel lip balm in Ladakh

    1. Thanks Ivanka – I just ripped an embroidered bag I got from a flea market in India and got the patch sewn onto the back of an old denim jacket. Now I can’t stop wearing it 🙂

  1. I really love the fringe bag and the denim jacket – talented lady. The maxi dress is beautiful, love ones with sleeves has more of a bohemian vibe to me.

    1. Thanks a ton – Hehe I do have a soft spot for maxi dresses. I’ve been wearing that denim jacket non stop 🙂

    1. Thanks Rhian 🙂 I love colour, so I try to pack as much of it as possible while throwing together holiday outfits

  2. I LOVE that colourful maxi dress you’re wearing!!! And that orange snow coat with the moutains behind you!! Such a contast and such an awesome photo!! You’ve done it again!!

    1. Thanks Francesca 🙂 I love that maxi dress too and it came in really andy during our roadtrip in Ladakh

  3. Serious wanderlust right now! I would never have thought of doing an India road trip. Is Def something to consider after seeing these photos. Those views!

  4. I’m going to Ladakh this July and then I read this blog. Can you even imagine my mammoth sized excitement?? P.S. Sleeveless dresses won’t be a problem right because of the weather?

    1. Hey Sweta,

You’ll have such an amazing time in Ladakh. Some days are hot so sleeveless dresses won’t be a problem, but please do take woollens with you as nights (and even days) can be super cold 🙂

      Have a great trip

  5. Hi Savi Vid,
I am planning to go to Ladakh this september. Unfortunately, i cant afford road trips because of my backache problem. I’ll be flying to Leh and then explore the places that you’ve mentioned here. Is september good time to visit Ladakh? My partner is an experienced rider so we are planning to hire bike once we reach there. How will that be? Are roads good enough for biking?

    1. Hey Priya,

September should be a great time to visit the region. You’ll have a great time riding there. The roads are in excellent condition (might be a bit patchy on the way to Nubra and Pangong but otherwise great).

Have a great trip and hopefully your back won’t give you much trouble 🙂

      Much love

  6. OMG ! Loved the colours…each and every snap, how candid the pictures are ! I am planning end of June next year, came across this post once again.
Not planning to travel this year due to a a major surgery.
Any idea, do we have to carry much woollens or mild warm clothes would do ? Also, please suggest how can we book camps near Pan-gong ? Thanks much. 🙂

    1. Hey Swagata,

Good luck with the surgery and wish you a quick recovery 🙂

It’s always better to carry woollens as it can get quite cold in some places in June. Not sure about the camps – we stayed in Pangong Inn which is a basic hotel.

      Have a great trip!!

  7. Hi Savi and Vid. I am planning to travel to Ladakh from 10-16 July 2021. Wanted to know the blog that you have written above is for which month you travelled to Ladakh? I am a bit confused now, I saw that during the days that I am planning, the weather forecast says that it will be around 17 degrees. So should I carry light woollens only or mix of light woollens for high altitudes and nights and some summer clothes too?

    1. Hey Kanika,

This article was written for the month of June/July. As a rule, when travelling to Leh Ladakh, it’s always good to carry some light woolen 🙂

  8. Hiii Savi, your dresses are amazing specially so much colorful. I am going to Ladakh next week and was searching clothes to pack for Leh Ladakh and landed on your page. Now trying to pack colorful dresses. I really admire you guys and follow you on Instagram. There is so much to learn and you have been inspiration. I would love to be friends with you. Please visit my page also just once.

  9. A fascinating discussion is definitely worth comment. I do think that you ought to publish more about this subject matter, it might not be a taboo subject but typically people don’t discuss these subjects. To the next! Kind regards.
