Floating breakfasts, romantic villas, and infinity pools are probably the first things that come to mind when you think of a holiday in Maldives. Not a fun-filled holiday with kids or your family. But that perception couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact we recently penned an article on our favourite child-friendly destinations. And Maldives had to feature as our pick for a luxurious beach holiday with kids.

On our recent trip to Maldives, we stayed at Club Med Finolhu – a romantic and quiet property, ideal for couples who need privacy. But we got so many questions from readers with young kids and elderly parents regarding holidays in Maldives. So we just had to check out Club Med Kani, one of the most famous family-friendly resorts in Maldives. Just a 5 minute boat ride away from Club Med Finolhu, Club Med Kani offers something completely different – think lively pool parties, buffet breakfasts with lots of options for kids, dinners by the beach at sunset, and a huge variety of water-sports to keep you occupied during the day! Happiness is literally in the air here.

Here are 5 reasons why you should opt for a stay at Club Med Kani if you’re travelling with your parents, your kids, or with a group of friends:

1.All Inclusive Fun

I’ve said this before but going all-inclusive is the easiest way to have a ball in Maldives. If you don’t go all inclusive, the costs of meals, water sports, and little things like renting snorkelling equipment or buying a cocktail add up quickly and you end up spending a lot more money that you thought you would. So we would urge you to look for a good all-inclusive package when you book a hotel in Maldives, especially if you’re travelling with kids.

The all-inclusive package at Club Med Kani includes accommodation, watersports, and all meals. Some experiences such as spa treatments, fly-boarding, and jet skiing are available at an additional fee. But for the purpose of this article, we wanted to talk only about the things that are part of the all-inclusive package. This means you don’t have to spend a penny once you get to the hotel if you don’t want to. Let’s go 🙂

2. Extensive options at meal times

We all know how kids are – they might nibble on a boiled egg but want a waffle the next minute. And everyone wants to pamper their kids on a holiday. That’s why elaborate buffet spreads work better than discreet room service in this case. Club Med Kani has three different restaurants, including an all-day snack bar called The Kaana, so there’s plenty to choose from. You will love The Vehli, which offers buffet-style meals with a dedicated baby-corner so you can enjoy your meal in peace while your baby plays with new friends. You should definitely set aside time to drop by The Sunset Bar for a drink, followed by dinner under the stars at The Kandu. The relaxed vibe is bound to put you in the holiday state of mind. Have 2 rounds of dessert or an extra glass of wine – don’t worry, no one is judging! And it’s all included in your package, so there are no extra bills to pay either 🙂

3) Rooms ideal for families

Club Med Kani is a sprawling resort with many different kinds of rooms. If you’re travelling with young kids, we would suggest one of their garden front or beach front room. If you’re in a large group, make sure you opt for interconnecting rooms.

However if you’re travelling with teenagers or as a couple, then we would recommend you spend at least 2 nights at their over-water villas. The villas are rustic yet luxurious. Expect a poster bed, bath tub overlooking turquoise waters, and an extremely spacious bathroom.  Of course, the best part is that you can hop into the ocean right from your room. The balconies of their over-water villas have stunning views. This area of the hotel also has an exclusive beach bar and lounge (Manta lounge and beach bar), reserved for over-water villa guests, which is a nice touch!

4) Watersports for teenagers and adults

Club Med Kani offers an enviable range of water-sports and we would recommend coming down here for water-sports even if you’re staying at the more private Club Med Finolhu. We sampled almost all the activities included in our all-inclusive package and had the best time ever. We would highly recommend kayaking. The water is quite shallow by the shore, so try it out even if you’ve never been kayaking before.

You could also go sailing. Make sure you drop by the Sports Centre and reserve a boat for yourself as this is a popular activity. For those looking for some action, try out the flying trapeze. Something else you must try is snorkelling – it is the easiest and best way to experience Maldives’ incredible waters and marine life for yourself. The hotel conducts two guided snorkelling trips daily, so you have no excuse not to go!

5) Family-friendly activities for all age groups

One thing is for sure – there is never a dull moment at Club Med Kani. In addition to the variety of water sports, the hotel is always bustling with small exhibits by local artisans, cooking classes for kids, pool parties, musical evenings for the family, and games of water polo. There is a dedicated children’s corner in the hotel as well but we saw lots of young ones in all the public areas. The kids were definitely the ones having most fun at Club Med Kani – performing in stage shows, making new friends, and sampling endless flavours of ice-cream. That’s the life!
