Two drifters off to see the world
There’s such a lot of world to see
– Moon River (Frank Sinatra)
Sometimes quoting a Sinatra classic is the only way to begin a blog post.
For months now, we’ve been planning something crazy. Something so crazy it practically has us bursting with excitement. There’s no other way to say it, so I’ll plunge headlong into this.
We’ve quit our jobs to travel the world. Yep, a couple of months back, we handed in our resignation letters at work. Come next month, our lives are going to change. We’re bidding goodbye to every last security net- job, house, gym membership (boo!) – to go and see the world, ALL of it 🙂
WHY?
For a while now, we’ve felt constrained by time lines – 15 or 25 days isn’t ever enough to explore a country or acquaint oneself with a new culture. Almost always, we want to linger in new places but regular jobs don’t allow that luxury. Countless times, we’ve found ourselves boarding return flights just when we’d started making friends and getting used to the quirks of a new culture. So we did what we do best – defied convention and followed our hearts.
We call this our staggered retirement plan – we’ve been working hard, earning, and saving for over 10 years now. The time has come to put those savings to good use. For most people, those savings go straight to the mighty pension fund. But who knows where (or how) we will be at 65! So we want to enjoy the fruits of our labour while we still can 🙂
This isn’t to say we won’t be working on the road, because we will. We will be working full time on Bruised Passports. Vid also has some exciting photography projects up his sleeve. I love writing and will continue to work on projects that make my heart sing. But it’s goodbye to structured corporate jobs for now.
WHAT?
Given that both of us are struck by incurable wanderlust, there will be lots of new places. There will also be crazy once-in-a-lifetime experiences, helicopter rides, memorable hotels, and Michelin-star eateries along the way.
But this journey isn’t about plush eateries or new countries – it’s about meeting new people, garnering tens of thousands of experiences, and living every moment, saturated with colour and happiness. It’s about celebrating the little things – vintage kimonos, crazy road trips, little-known poetry, good vibes and perhaps, most importantly, freedom 🙂
WHERE?
Of course the highlight of this entire plan is not to have a plan. We want to drift from one country to another, spend as long as we want in a new city without having to worry about itineraries, ticking things off a checklist, or boarding a flight back home.
Having said that, we do have a rough itinerary in mind for the next year or so. Come July, we’ll be flying to South America. If you’ve been reading Bruised Passports since the very beginning, you would know that living in South America has been a bit of a dream for us. So that’s what we will be doing! We’ll be living in Peru for over a month – exploring Peruvian vineyards, flying over the Nazca lines, uncovering the secrets of the Incan empire, fawning over panoramas at Lake Titicaca, staying in a tiny Peruvian village, and so much more. From there, we’ll head to the remote salt flats of Bolivia. Then we’ll fly to Ecuador and explore the stunning Galapagos Islands.
After South America, we’ll fly to India to smother friends and family with hugs and sloppy kisses (aye, so classy!). I’ll be teaching underprivileged kids at a local school (spending time with little madcaps will always be my first love!) and we’ll be attending a couple of crazy bohemian festivals before going on a long-winded road trip in India.
Come December, we’ll fly to Australia and spend the next 3-4 months exploring Australia, New Zealand, and the islands of the South Pacific (Fiji tops that list but let’s see where we end up!). Most of 2016 will be spent in South East Asia – we want to rent a beach hut for a few months in Bali, learn deep-sea diving in Thailand, and explore the islands of the Philippines.
Of course, this isn’t set in stone – so if you have any suggestions or you know of a place we should explore, leave us a comment below 🙂
For the next couple of years it’s books, golden fields, tropical getaways, road trips, hidden woods, skinny dips, and music with a generous helping of gypsy prints, tie-dye, opulent colours, tribal bits and turquoise bobs on Bruised Passports. We are excited, apprehensive, scared, and ecstatic – all at once!
Our round-the-world trip starts on 8 July. We don’t want to put an end date down just yet! Who knows whether we’ll love travelling full time or not (only time will tell but we’d never know if we never tried, right ?) 🙂 ! Our li’l adventure might end in 2 years or 5. Either way, for the next couple of years, we’re just 2 kids on the run…. 🙂
Will you come along for the ride?

Thanks Donah – we’re excited about the big move 🙂
This is such exciting news! But please let us in on more news!
Like how long did you plan this for?
Have you sold off everything you owned?
Will you be having a base or going location independent?
How much of “stuff” will you be carrying? So Savi do we see you in the same clothes everyday 😀
How will you manage visas on an Indian passport when you don’t have full time jobs
Will you be trying any freelancing work to make some side income?
Where all will you be road tripping in India?
Uff so many questions, so little time
Haha – I love this! Yep, we’ve sold off everything we owned. We’ve been planning it for a couple of years now but decided to take the plunge quite recently. We won’t have a base – location independent it is! We’re working our way around getting visas – we’ll visit places that have fewer visa regulations. Yes, will be freelancing a bit on the side but we want to concentrate on exploring places right now. We’ll be carrying very little stuff (just 2 backpacks), so the ‘same clothes everyday’ is definitely a possibility 😉
How cool is tht!!!! This is the first time i hv visited ur blog n I am hooked fr sure….luking forward to ur trips 🙂
Hey Bhawana – so glad to have you with us for the ride. Hope you enjoy following our adventures in the years to come 🙂

Hey Savi,
Came to know about you both and bruised passports from FB, wherein I noticed a post from Shubha Lal just last week! Since then, have read many of your posts (must say, amazing write ups!!).
I have been also planning to do something on the similar lines for a while now (though a bit different in the sense that, I want to travel various places and take up some volunteering work wherever I go!).
Good to see that you guys have decided to take this bold step, and if possible would like to meet you if you are still in London?
Do let me know. Wish you all the very best for your upcoming travels!!!! 🙂 🙂
Pooja

If you’re making the effort to come all the way down to Oz then an on-ward journey certainly needs to be Japan, it’s absolutely fantastic! (Saying that my home-soil is pretty damn fine too!).
Hey Mark,
We definitely want to visit Japan. It’ll probably be in Mid-2016 🙂
This is amazing to me!! Working hospice nursing for awhile you realize life is short and full of “I should have..” I dont want to feel like that when my end comes. I applaud you guys for being brave enough to do this! I stumbbled onto your website looking at info on Iceland(we are going in sept)! Thanks for the info and enjoy your travels!
Thanks a lot Emily 🙂
Hey Savi and Vid
Have been a silent reader and admirer of Bruised Passports for quite some time which has definitely benefitted on a couple of my trips especially Croatia!! I will try and make it a point to follow your adventures more closely….
A BIG thumbs up 🙂 Way to go! May the future hold what you want. I will end my comment with a couple of my favourite quotes:-
“Virtue of camera is not the power it has to transform the photographer into an artist but the impulse it gives him to keep on looking”
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
Cheers!!
Hey Vatsal,
Love those quotes 🙂
Thank you so much for such a beautiful message!
Much Love
Savi and Vid
This is fantastic you guys! It does take a lot of courage to say goodbye to the ‘conventional’ world we all live in and pursue an unconventional living. Best luck to you both. Hope your sojourns enrich your lives and continue inspiring our’s. Looking forward to your experiences around the world. God bless.
Thanks a lot Krutika 🙂
You guys don’t know how much have you inspired me to travel. I guess there’s an instinct in everyone of us which wants us to quit everything and travel around the world but very few people like you have the guts to listen to it. A lot of people just lower down the volume of that instinct. I invite you to travel my beautiful country Pakistan someday and would personally like to meet you both. May God Bless you both 🙂
Dear Umair,
Thanks a lot for the beautiful message 🙂
We look forward to seeing you sometime in the future and exploring your beautiful country.
Best Wishes

This is great. Helps me fight my insecurities of the future and fear of not having a safe comfortable job. Have been following you guys for 3-4 months now. The photographs are amazing and the places you visit give me aspirations. I am hoping to travel in the coming years to some of the places you have visited.
but I would want to know how you guys manage your finances and like you mentioned, what do you guys work on to earn money while traveling. This could help me understand how I can manage my travels.

There is truly no better feeling in the world than handing in your resignation letter to travel! Hope you guys have found everything you’ve been looking for, we’re really enjoying your website
Hehe true that – it’s quite a leap of faith but all the more precious for it 🙂
i Have been following you for 2 months now. The photographs are too good . I am hoping to travel in future like you
but I also wanna know how you manage your finances while traveling. This could help me…
I am very happy to read all the blogs and follow you guys on instagram.
Hey Ayush – as you read above we worked full-time and saved for full time travelling for 8-10 years. We put all our savings into travel instead of buying a house, cars etc. But we also work full time in travel and have a host of location-independent jobs to help sustain us as we go along. You can read the articles titled ‘Who Are Savi and Vid’, ‘5 tips for bloggers’, and ‘Q and A with Savi and Vid’ on our website for more details about our lifestyle and travelling full time 🙂
Hi Savi ,
I am following bruised passports, from past few months. I want to take up ‘traveling for life’as you guys did, but few doubts in mind though. So thought of writing it to you.
Do you guys have kids, if yes how do you manage their education and spending time with them . While to travel round the year?
Hi we don’t but a lot of our friends who are full time bloggers do and they home school their kids or travel slowly and enrol kids in local schools for 6-8 months!
Hi Savi & Vid, I just happened to stumble upon your website and it’s sooo amazing!! You guys have given me major relationship goals <3. Wish you a very happy and exciting journey all-round-the-world!!
I just had a newbie question: How to manage the visa process if I wish to stay in a place for as long as I want? Don't we need a return ticket to get through the visa process?
TIA!! Lots of love <3
Thank you Alisha ☺️ yes you certainly need a return ticket especially when applying for visa to European countries etc.
Good luck! I aspire to be like you guys one day!all the best..and lots of love!
All the very best ☺️
