It’s summer – the skies have opened up, trees look bright green, and the birds are singing. Hallelujah. I was waiting for this time of the year for 6 months. Why. You ask!!

Now the summer season excites me a lot. But that’s not it. It’s during summer months that I usually go for my annual cruise holiday.Cruises are one of my favourite kinds of holidays – I discovered them at 24 and there’s been no looking back. I’ve gone on one every single year since. So far I’ve explored Mediterranean ports, the Norwegian Fjords, the Canary Islands, and even Egypt. But I’m really looking forward to a Caribbean cruise this year. It’s a part of the world I’ve never ventured to (Can you believe it?) and from what I read, it has everything a place needs to seduce the living daylights out of me. Here are a few reasons for picking a Caribbean Cruise over other fascinating options:

  • The Beaches

Now I have a thing for beaches (who doesn’t?). They’re my happy place. As soon I as see the glistening blue waters of a beach destination, I know my holiday’s begun in real ernest. The Caribbean is said to be home to some of the most gorgeous beaches in the world – yep that’s definitely a game-changer for me! I’m already dreaming of powdery white sands, colourful cocktails, turquoise waters, and the sun. Oh lord- someone take me there NOW!

  • Island life

Is there anyone who can argue against the charms of island life? Breakfast by blue waters, midnight swims, quaint little bars, friendly people, and lush tropical fruit – the entire package is appetising (pun fully intented!). Everytime I’m on an island, I break into a dance in my head. The happiness reflects on my face – even Vid thinks I’m happiest on little islands, far away from the rest of the world. As you can tell, we love our islands and have visited a fair few including Mauritius, Maldives, Fiji, and so many others. I just can’t bear the thought of leaving the Caribbean Islands unexplored, so I’m going for them. Bucket list alert anyone?

  • Caribbean noms

This is no secret – food is the most important part of a holiday. We love tropical fruits and are pretty sure most buffet spreads on our Caribbean cruise will be laden with pineapples, mangos, watermelon and the like. Can I just say this is getting me very very excited. Besides the fruits, there’s all those rum-based cocktails and Caribbean food. Caribbean food is one of my favourites but I’m pretty sure all my favourite Caribbean restaurants in London will pale in comparison to the goodies we’ll get on the islands – The Real Deal. I literally can. not. wait

That’s the story of how I persuaded myself to book a cruise to the Caribbean as my next holiday. Have any of you been on a Caribbean cruise before? Any tips and tricks or recommendations for us – tell us 🙂
